The WhiteLaptop went from Dean Kamen, to Dr. Craig Venter! Turns out, the WhiteLaptop wasn’t in any hurry to leave. Was the WhiteLaptop helping to map out DNA, or just enjoying some time on the West Coast with new friends?
Dr. Craig Venter is the founder of the J. Craig Venter Institute in Rockville, Maryland, He is the first person to publish his complete diploid DNA sequence, unveiling the six billion-letter genome sequence of a single individual for the first time in September of this year. He is also seeking to patent the first life-form created by man, possibly to be named the Mycoplasma Laboratorium. Interesting stuff!
Plans for the WhiteLaptop have changed slightly. As it is still out, making friends with the Stars, we have delayed the auction. More signatures can only be a good thing, right? We are committed to the campaign and can’t wait to see our little WhiteLaptop, all grown up and on the Auctioning block!
Just in time for Christmas, the Give One, Get One campaign. Donate $399 to the Laptop campaign and have one laptop go to a child in a developing country, a tax receipt for $200 and a laptop for that special little person in your life! We won’t tell anyone if you play with the laptop too.

The WhiteLaptop’s adventure is BACK ON! It hung out at Google for quite sometime (mind you, we wouldn’t want to leave either… It’s fun there!) and now rumor has it the amazing Dean Kamen has the WhiteLaptop in his hands.
Dean Kamen is a world recognized inventor, entreprenuer and science/technology advocate. He hold over 440 patents - so it’s an honor that he has the Laptop. Rumor also has it he flies a helicopter to work… Maybe, just maybe the Laptop hitched a ride!
The Laptop will now be auctioned off this summer in support of OLPC and Youth for Technology Foundation. We hope that it continues to exchange hands like a hot potato and collect more signatures! In fact - Dean’s passion “FIRST” is holding their youth championship this weekend and one of Dean’s colleagues said the Laptop might be there to cheer the kids on. Who knows what tech celeb will nab the Laptop during that event and take it on another road trip… We can’t wait to find out!
PS - Today we saw photos on CNet of students in Nigeria powering up their $100 Laptops for the first time. It’s worth a look to understand why the Laptop’s journey should continue so we can aquire more signatures from more amazing people and raise more funds.

Surrounded by thousands of Googlers wearing their pajamas on a warm Valley day - Now that’s what we call a Good Time!
“Welcome to Google,” we thought as we walked into building 42 on Pajama Day. We stuck out like sore thumbs in our collared shirts… I guess we didn’t get the memo, but it didn’t bother us as we met up two Google executive admin assistants who were returning the White Laptop after it’s journey from Virginia to the Valley where it was signed by Larry Brilliant, Executive Director of Google.org (Google’s Philanthropic arm).
That was Friday, December 15, and we’re still coming down from the high.
The night before, we attended a Churchill Club event featuring Chad Hurley, Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg (Cambrian House sponsored the event) and were lucky enough to sit beside Megan Smith, Director of Business Development at Google and tech goddess. She was kind enough to extend us an offer to meet with her and her colleague Ethan Beard at Google the next day to check out the $100 Laptops.
What, per say, are the $100 Laptops? They’re an initiative of One Laptop per Child (OLPC), an organization aiming to develop laptops for use by children in developing nations. So on Friday we met with Megan and Ethan on Pajama Day at Google who are both key players in bringing the $100 Laptops to life. We left our White Laptop with Megan after she and Ethan signed it and she promised to get it in the hands of other industry influencers like Nicholas Negroponte, Chairman of OLCP and co-founder of MIT’s Media Laboratory.
We’re still on track to get the White Laptop back in our hands and on the auction block in February to celebrate Cambrian House’s one year anniversary. Funds raised will go towards OLPC and the Youth for Technology Foundation.
Who else do you think should sign the Laptop? We’ll pass your feedback along! The countdown is on!

An overnight flight from the Valley to Virginia had us all holding our breath… But the White Laptop made it safe and sound to Dr. Vinton Cerf’s office. Dr. Cerf is Vice President & Chief Internet Evangelist for Google and has been called the “Father of the Internet.”
Without his vision, the Internet as we know it might not exist today… So, we salute you Dr. Cerf! Thank you for showing your support for our cause and we can’t wait to see where the Laptop goes next…
We’ll share your suggestions with Dr. Cerf to help him decide who the Laptop should go to next. More suggestions are welcome!

Imagine our glee when we opened our email this morning and saw an email from Guy Kawasaki with a photo attached of him and Steve Wozniak on stage with the White Laptop. Gasp! Okay, breathe slowly, pass us a paper bag.
We knew the Laptop would attract some major tech celebs, but since we attended the Web 2.0 conference last week, the campaign really found the gas pedal, and we couldn’t be more excited. Not only are we making connections with people we look up to and dream of being best friends with, but we’re also going to raise money for a good cause in the end. Can we be on a more euphoric high? I think not!
Steve Wozniak not only co-founded Apple, but is a super hero to many-a tech wanna be and even to tech success stories. Having him add to the long list of people who signed last week at the conference adds more motivation to us to keep the Laptop moving and get signatures from more and more people who inspire us and you!
Who should sign it next? Who inspired you?
Let us know - the clock is ticking down to the auction block date!

The Laptop was one of the biggest celebs at Web 2.0 this week. And boy oh boy, did it travel around!
A 5 foot walk from one table to another, down a hall and up the escalator, a 3 foot hand-over from Mike Arrington of TechCrunch to Mena from Six Apart!
Take that office snail!
Who’s signed it? Check back to the “Track It” page as we’ll be updating it shortly!

She’s the goddess of online communities and social networking… We’re so proud to announce that Caterina Fake, co-founder of Ludicorp (creators of Flickr), picked up a pen and left her mark on the White Laptop today too!
Caterina is attending Web 2.0, holding a workshop titled “Blogher…World Domination via Collaboration.”
You go, sister. Cambrian House loves collaboration.
Hmm. If Cambrian House dominated the world - could we make everyone wear viking hats?

The Web 2.0 conference in San Fran is a-buzz with people from loads of cool startups and many of the industry’s biggest players. Naturally, we knew we had to bring the Laptop along to mingle with tech gods and goddesses.
This morning, Jeffrey Bezos, founder of Amazon.com was kind enough to put his support being this worthwhile cause.
Thanks for the support, Jeff! We think customers rule too! Oh, and crowds!

So you say the laptop isn’t moving… That it’ll be obsolete by the time we get it back. Well, something’s moving here at Cambrian House. Since we last moved the laptop, our office snail has moved 1.5 inches! Keep on truck’n snail!

Hmm, Laptop stuck in a rut? Yes, the laptop has been hanging out with Guy Kawasaki for longer than we’d like, but it’s gearing up to get social again next week while the Cambrian House crew is in San Fran.
Word has it the laptop will meet Steve Wozniak in the near future, too. Ooooh, we’re jealous!
